This talented trio of Year 13 pupils from Saint Catherine’s College won the BPW (Business and Professional Women’s) Public Speaking Competition, a competition designed to inspire confidence and build presentation skills in young women. This year’s Northern Ireland final event was held on the evening of the 23rd of November in Ulster Carpets’ Portadown.
Saint Catherine’s saw off very stiff competition from five other schools to claim victory in three of the five award categories, including the highest accolade ‘Winning Team’. Eimear Finn was also presented the award for ‘Best Speaker’. In her capacity as speaker, Eimear articulately expressed her views on the topic ‘It is easier to create strong children than to fix broken adults’. Her energy, confidence and composure under the pressure of questions from the judging panel and floor was praised. The previous week Eimear was also awarded Runner-Up in the prestigious Soroptimist Public Speaking Competition and will compete in the Northern Ireland finals in February 2022.
The Best Chairman was awarded to Charlotte Tiffney from Saint Catherine's College for her articulate control of the meeting, as well as her natural rapport with the meeting attendees.
The winning team will progress now to represent Northern Ireland in the Inter-Regional Championship in Oswestry, Shropshire in March 2022.
