Saint Catherine’s College Key Stage 3 Prize Giving

“Nothing is impossible; the word itself says I’m possible.”

 Audrey Hepburn

The theme of this year’s Key Stage Three Prize Giving ceremony was “Helping Hands”. In her introductory address to year 10 students, Principal Noeleen Tiffney said:

“True success in life is not just about passing exams.  You are children of the Sacred Heart and our hope is that you will leave here not only with Intellect but also Faith, Character, a sense of Community and Social Awareness.  The latter was our Goal for this year and your year group has helped raise almost £20,000 for charity; for Clic Sergant, Trocaire & Special Olympics, to name but a few. This is proof that you can be both intelligent and compassionate.”

Guests at the event included parents and guardians of the students present and Guest Speaker former Lord Mayor, Councillor Garath Keating. Welcoming Councillor Keating, Mrs Tiffney stated:

“Who better to use as a role model than our Guest Speaker who has done fantastic work for our local area helping to bring in jobs, promoting civic pride, raising money for charity and championing local good causes. He is an inspiration for you to get out there and not only make a difference but be the difference.”

In his Prize Giving address, Garath Keating told his young audience how, through hard work and a positive attitude, they have created an excellent learning environment in which to nurture and shape their outlook, values and principles for their life journey ahead. He continued:

“Nelson Mandela said "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world" and as a generation you will have some significant challenges to face.  But I have no doubt that the skills and talents so evidently present in this year group will be to the fore in making a hugely positive contribution to our local community and to improvements in wider society."

Mrs Tiffney congratulated the Year 10 students on their excellent results and achievements. She also acknowledged the hard work of the teachers and thanked the parents for their support over the three years in Key Stage 3. The vote of thanks was given by Aideen O’Hanlon and Louise Daly while Declan Scullion and Odhran Reid thanked the staff of Sruth na Gaeilge in Irish.
