St Catherine’s College journey with real people, real lives during their school Lenten Campaign

St Catherine’s College focused their Lenten fundraising efforts 2018 on raising money for the Sr Considine fund. This fund was set up to assist students in St Catherine’s College sister schools in Uganda, Africa. This year the staff and students undertook many fundraising activities to raise money for Kalungu Girls Training Centre and Kangole Girls Senior Secondary School.

For over 40 years, RSCJ-led Kangole Girls Senior Secondary School, has provided an education for the young women of the region of Uganda, in an area with the highest poverty and under-nutrition rates in the country. Florence is one of the students that has been educated in Kalungu Girls Training Centre. Florence said:

My school has held me and shaped my life and I will always cherish every single moment I have spent in it. Kalungu Girls Training Centre has nurtured and sowed in me seeds of discipline, academic excellence, sense of belonging, self-esteem, and above all a firm spiritual background. I received financial assistance and this enabled me to remain in school.”

Mrs Mairead Fitzpatrick, who co-ordinated the Lenten Campaign, added: “A heartfelt Thank you to staff and students for all their fundraising efforts.”
